Wichita’s Sedgwick County Zoo has earned national recognition, ranking 10th in USA Today’s 2025 “10Best Zoos” list, highlighting the attraction as one of the top zoological parks in the United States.
The annual USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards are determined by public voting, with nominees selected by a panel of experts in travel and tourism. The Sedgwick County Zoo’s placement reflects both its popularity among visitors and its reputation for conservation, education, and animal care.
Zoo officials say the recognition is a testament to the hard work of staff and the continued support of the community. “Being named among the top zoos in the country is an incredible honor,” a spokesperson said. “It shows how much Wichita values wildlife, conservation, and creating meaningful experiences for families.”
Spanning more than 240 acres, the Sedgwick County Zoo is home to over 3,000 animals representing hundreds of species. It is widely known for its immersive exhibits, including African savannas, Asian habitats, and interactive experiences that bring visitors closer to animals.
Local leaders say the ranking also boosts Wichita’s profile as a travel destination. “This kind of national recognition brings attention to our city and encourages tourism,” said a city representative. “It’s something the whole community can be proud of.”
The zoo has consistently ranked among the top attractions in Kansas, but this latest honor places it firmly on the national stage. Officials hope the recognition will inspire even more visitors to experience what they describe as “one of the most engaging and educational zoos in the country.”
